Attraction
Ruakuri Cave is a limestone cave near Waitomo known for its spiral entrance walkway, underground river and glowworm displays. Guided walking tours run about 90 minutes and cover rock formations and waterfalls without wading or swimming, and the cave is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Tours depart at set times from the Ruakuri Information Centre and are bookable through Waitomo's cave tour operator.
Ruakuri Cave is about 2 kilometres from Waitomo Village. From the village, head west and turn at the roundabout onto Tumutumu Road, passing the Waitomo Glowworm Caves visitor centre, then continue roughly a further 1.8 kilometres to the signposted Ruakuri car park. Free parking is available at the visitor centre beside the reserve entrance. Tour operators also offer transfers from Waitomo Village for visitors without a car.
