Attraction
Huka Falls is a set of rapids on the Waikato River near Taupo, where the river narrows into a canyon and drops about 11 metres through a gap roughly 15 metres wide. Visitors view the falls from a footbridge and lookout points reached by a short walk from the car park. Viewing is free and open year-round; jet boat and cruise tours also approach from the river.
Huka Falls sits about a 10-minute drive north of Taupo town centre, off Huka Falls Road. The car park at the falls has limited space and is locked overnight between 5:30pm and 8:30am. Walkers can reach the falls on foot via the Spa Park to Huka Falls Walk, a roughly 6km return track along the Waikato River from Spa Thermal Park near town. No public bus serves the site directly, so most visitors drive, cycle, or join a jet boat or cruise tour departing from Taupo.
