Mission Estate Winery
Mission Estate Winery, established in 1851 by French Marist missionaries near Napier, is regarded as New Zealand's oldest winery. The cellar door at the Grande Maison in Taradale offers wine tastings, including a self-guided flight, alongside a restaurant and vineyard views. The estate also hosts the annual Mission Concert and offers vineyard-set accommodation.
How to get there
Mission Estate Winery is in Taradale, on the western edge of Napier, roughly a 10-minute drive from the city centre and Hawke's Bay Airport. The cellar door has on-site parking. Independent access by car or taxi is straightforward, and the estate is included on several Hawke's Bay wine-trail tours that combine multiple cellar doors with transport from Napier hotels. There is no dedicated public bus route to the winery, so most visitors arrive by car, taxi or a booked tour shuttle.
