Mona Vale
Mona Vale is a 4-hectare public park in the Fendalton suburb of Christchurch, built around an early-1900s homestead and heritage-listed gatehouse beside the Avon River. Grounds include rose and iris gardens, a fernery, riverside plantings and a cafe inside the homestead open year-round for coffee and light food. Entry to the gardens is free, and the park is a stop for river punting trips run on the Avon.
How to get there
Mona Vale sits on Fendalton Road in the suburb of Fendalton, a short drive or bus ride from central Christchurch and within easy reach of the Botanic Gardens along the Avon River. Christchurch's central-city bus network serves Fendalton Road, and there is on-site parking for visitors arriving by car. The riverside paths connect through to the Botanic Gardens on foot, and punting operators run trips linking the two sites along the Avon.
