## How to get there

Lake Pukaki lies beside State Highway 8 in the Mackenzie Basin, about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive south-west of Christchurch and roughly 25 to 35 minutes past Lake Tekapo. The Punatahu Visitor Centre and adjoining car park sit at the lake's southern end, with further lookouts such as Peter's Lookout and Hayman Road Lookout along the eastern shoreline, each with parking and picnic tables. From the lake it is about 40 to 60 minutes on to Aoraki/Mount Cook Village via State Highway 80. No public transport serves the lookouts; self-drive or a tour is required.
