Attraction
The International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch is a visitor attraction covering Antarctic science and wildlife, with exhibits including a penguin rescue and viewing area, a Storm Experience simulating Antarctic weather, a 4D theatre, and rides in Hagglunds all-terrain vehicles. Guided tours run for around two hours. The centre is open daily, typically from 9am to 4:30pm.
The centre is at 38 Orchard Road, next to Christchurch Airport, about a five-minute walk from the airport terminal. It is roughly a 15-minute drive from central Christchurch. A daily shuttle runs between Cathedral Square in the city and the centre, and city bus routes 8 and 29 also serve the area, with the number 8 stopping directly outside. Visitors driving from the city centre can reach it via the same route used for the airport.
