Attraction
Christchurch Botanic Gardens covers 21 hectares beside the Avon River in Christchurch's central city, with formal rose and herb gardens, native plant collections, and glasshouse conservatories. Entry to the outdoor gardens is free; the conservatories open daily from 10am to 4pm. Guided walks and a hop-on tram stop are available for visitors touring the wider Hagley Park precinct.
The gardens sit on Rolleston Avenue in Christchurch's central city, bordered by the Avon River and adjoining Hagley Park. They are within walking distance of the city centre, Canterbury Museum, and the Arts Centre. Visitors arriving by car can use parking around Hagley Park or the Christchurch Art Gallery car park nearby. The Christchurch tram loop stops close to the Rolleston Avenue entrance, and several city bus routes serve the surrounding streets, making independent access straightforward without a guided tour.
