Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is a geothermal park south of Rotorua with colored mineral pools, craters and mud pools formed by volcanic activity. The daily Lady Knox Geyser eruption is scheduled for 10:15am, with arrival recommended by 9:45am. The site is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm daily, with last entry at 3pm; tickets are booked online.
How to get there
Wai-O-Tapu is located on Waiotapu Loop Road, off State Highway 5 about 30 kilometres south of central Rotorua, a drive of roughly 30 minutes. The site has its own car park at the entrance. Many visitors arrive independently by rental car, though shuttle transfers and guided day tours from Rotorua are also available and often combine the geothermal park with nearby attractions such as the Waimangu Volcanic Valley.
