Attraction
Lake Rotorua is the largest lake in the Rotorua district, formed in a volcanic caldera with Mokoia Island at its centre. The lakefront in central Rotorua offers walking paths, geothermal features at Sulphur Bay, and departure points for scenic cruises. The paddle steamer Lakeland Queen runs breakfast and lunch cruises from the lakefront most days.
The lake sits at the edge of Rotorua town, with the lakefront a short walk from the central shopping and hospitality district on Tutanekai Street. Cruise departures leave directly from the Rotorua Lakefront jetty, so no transport is needed to reach the boarding point. Visitors driving in from Auckland or Taupo can park in central Rotorua and walk to the water; local buses and shuttles also connect the town centre to the lakefront.
