Lady Knox Geyser
Lady Knox Geyser is a geothermal feature inside the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, south of Rotorua. Staff trigger a daily eruption at 10:15am using a biodegradable surfactant, sending a jet of water up to 20 metres high that can last over an hour. Entry requires a Wai-O-Tapu ticket, and the geyser viewing area is a short walk from the park's car park.
How to get there
Wai-O-Tapu, home to Lady Knox Geyser, lies off State Highway 5 roughly 30 kilometres south of Rotorua, a drive of about 30 to 40 minutes. The park has its own car park at the entrance. Several Rotorua tour operators run shuttle buses timed to reach the geyser before the 10:15am eruption and continue on to the wider thermal walking trails. Independent visitors driving themselves should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled eruption, since seating at the amphitheatre fills before the show starts.
